OUR HISTORY

Sapienza Corse was born in 2008 when a group of young students from "Sapienza Università di Roma" decided to apply theory to real problems, such as those of a racing car, designing and building Gajarda, a FSAE Single Seater.

The team first event was FSAE Italy 2008, held on the Fiorano race track.
In 2009 it took part in two different competitions FSAE Italy and FSG, where the car finished the endurance event for the first time.
The following season was more competitive earning 15 ranking positions in the Italian event and 31 in the German one, and in 2011 the team reached the 61th position in the world ranking.
In 2012 the first hybrid monocoque was made, with a front end in carbon fibre and a rear tubular structure. The first complete carbon fibre monocoque was made in 2013, reaching the design finals in Formula Student Spain.

The following year the first aerodynamic package was introduced but the season was unlucky, competing only in FSAE Italy.
In 2015 the team raced in FSG and FSS and started the first drawings of Gajarda All Wheel Drive, which was the Overrall winner of the 2016 FSUK's Class 2 .

With hard work Gajarda AWD saw the light in 2017 giving us the achievement of being the only combustion formula student team with an All Wheel Drive racecar. She competed in FSAE Italy and FSG, where she won the "Most Innovative Powertrain Award"

In 2018 Gajarda AWD competed in FSUK and FS EAST, winning the "Bosch Best Engineered Brake System Award" and the "AMG HPP Best PWT Installation of IC Engine Award" in FSUK. Later in the year the driverless project begun.

2019 was a great season for Sapienza Corse. With the first ever driverless car with a combustion engine, Gajarda AWD Driverless competed against top teams in the DV class, placing 3rd in the Acceleration and Autocross events in FS EAST and winning the 1st overall in FSAE Italy. She closed the season 2019 competing in FSG placing 3rd in the Acceleration Event.

In 2021 the team competed in FATA, reaching 3rd Overall, and in FSG.
Since 2022 the team has been working on a new innovative car, Gajarda AWD Hybrid, that won the Class 3 overall at FATA 2023.
